A sister in our church informed me once of the fact that the stars “sing”. We know this apparently from a discipline called “Asteroseismology”. What struck me was how this reflected the “forgotten” Christian life. That is, the life lived not at the front but faithfully to God nonetheless, which he takes pleasure in. Funny enough, this sister embodies that. We can talk about biographies, great people from Christian history etc., but there are millions more whose names are not often recognised on earth, but that heaven delights in.
Anyway, I wrote a poem about it. Enjoy!
There are stars that sing in outer space
Notes of gladness, joy and praise
Echoing themes of their Master’s songs,
Never ceasing through centuries long
The One who named them must enjoy it well,
As their choruses rise in a mighty swell.
There are stars that sing in outer space.
There are stars that sing in outer space,
Their tunes unchanged by diurnal phase
Unconcerned by terrestrial cares,
Their songs continue unawares.
Heard only by their Creator (or a scientist listening in –
Eavesdropping on the majestic celestial din)
There are stars that sing in outer space.
There are stars that sing in outer space,
Far beyond this earthly rat-race
Unappreciated by the shouting throng
Who are seeking, each one, their own shining crown
But separated from that earth-bound push,
Faithfully they make melody, and glow in the hush
There are stars that sing in outer space.
There are stars that sing in outer space,
As a choir before that heavenly dais
Ignored by the world, but what do they care –
When they know that they have their sovereign Lord’s ear?
With joy they declare, though without a word,
“The heavens proclaim the glory of the Lord!”
There are stars that sing in outer space.
